A zillion stars in the sky

A zillion lanterns candle-lifted

Sublime beauty midnight’s darkness

Sequined with ephemeral sparks…

Whether celebration or grief’s

Memorial, heart beats a bit quicker

Threatens to still… as we stand

‘Neath canopy of  torches

Each one that burns soul-deep

Reigniting love, hope, dreams

Perhaps prayers…or something else

We can’t look up into Light

And be unmoved, untouched…

Hushed by all that is majestic

And all that we are small
